JACKSONVILLE - The 2012 South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks announced Tuesday that Shark offensive lineman SirVincent Rogers has been placed on the AFL’s “Other League Exempt” list, as Rogers has signed with the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts.
The 26-year-old Rogers was assigned to the Jacksonville roster on a three-year contract on January 11. The AFL veteran spent the 2012 season with the Arizona Rattlers and was a key part of that team’s ArenaBowl XXV-winning squad. Rogers saw action in 15 of the Rattlers’ regular-season games – making two starts – and also started two playoff games during the team’s championship run.
Prior to beginning his AFL career, Rogers signed with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 209, spending time with the team during training camp. The Jasper, Texas native spent his collegiate career at the University of Houston, where he was a teammate of Shark receiver Jeron Harvey.
Rogers becomes the first player assigned to Jacksonville’s 2013 roster to sign a contract with a CFL team. Wide receiver Jeremy Kelley signed a reserve/future contract with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts in January. The Sharks will retain Rogers’ AFL rights while he is with the Argonauts.
