AMERICAN CONFERENCE PLAYOFF SCENARIOS

07/25/2013 1:28 PM -

Just one week remains in the 2013 Arena Football League regular season, and each of the four playoff seeds in the American Conference have yet to be determined. Entering this week's action, the playoff seeding breaks down as follows:

No. 1 Philadelphia Soul (12-5)
No. 2 Jacksonville Sharks (11-6)
No. 3 Tampa Bay Storm (7-10)
No. 4 Orlando Predators (6-11)
(out) New Orleans VooDoo (5-12)

Three of Saturday's games will have an impact on the final playoff seeding in the American Conference, as the Sharks host the Storm (7:00 p.m.), the Predators host the VooDoo (7:00 p.m.), and the Soul travel to face the San Antonio Talons (9:00 p.m. on CBS Sports Network). In general, the scenarios for each team unfold as follows:

  • Philadelphia clinches the No. 1 seed with a win
  • Jacksonville clinches the No. 1 seed with a win AND a Philadelphia loss. If Philadelphia wins, the Sharks will be the No. 2 seed regardless of the outcome of their game against Tampa Bay
  • Tampa Bay clinches the No. 3 seed with a win OR an Orlando loss
  • Orlando clinches the No. 3 seed with a win AND a Tampa Bay loss, based on tiebreaker advantage (conference record)
  • Orlando clinches the No. 4 seed with a win AND a Tampa Bay win
  • New Orleans clinches the No. 4 seed with a win, based on tiebreaker advantage (head-to-head record)
