SHARKS SHUFFLE ROSTER ON EVE OF SCRIMMAGE

JACKSONVILLE – The four-time South Division Champion Jacksonville Sharks made several transactions on Saturday in advance of the team’s preseason scrimmage against the Tampa Bay Storm, which will be played at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday on Sea Best Field at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Sharks announced Saturday that the team has executed a trade with the Arizona Rattlers. In the deal, Jacksonville acquired veteran defensive lineman/Mac linebacker Darnell Carter in exchange for future considerations.

The 26-year-old Carter (6’3”, 255) spent each of the last two seasons with the Iowa Barnstormers. In 2013, Carter appeared in 17 of the Barnstormers’ games (four starts), totaling 26.0 tackles (15 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks. Carter also returned a fumble for a touchdown against the Sharks in the Barnstormers’ Week 5 trip to Sea Best Field.

A native of Englewood, N.J. Carter spent his collegiate career at the University of Virginia.

The Sharks also added more depth along the defensive line, announcing that rookie Isaiah Keyes has been assigned to the team’s roster. Keyes (6’4”, 260) attended Kentucky Christian University, where as a senior in 2012 he led the Knights with 16.0 tackles for loss, adding six sacks and a fumble recovery. Undrafted out of college, Keyes was invited to participate in the New York Giants’ rookie minicamp prior to the start of the 2013 National Football League season. Keyes is a native of Mt. Olive, Miss.

To go along with the additions of Carter and Keyes, the Sharks announced Saturday that defensive back Tracy Belton, wide receiver London Crawford, wide receiver Jeron Harvey, wide receiver Tristan Purifoy and defensive lineman Colton Miles-Nash have been placed on the physically unable to perform list.

Admission to Sunday’s scrimmage is free of charge, as fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2014 Sharks in a game situation. In lieu of charging for tickets, the Sharks will be collecting donations of pet food on behalf of First Coast No More Homeless Pets.
