JACKSONVILLE –  The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that kicker Nick Belcher has been signed to the Jacksonville roster for the upcoming 2017 season.

Nick Belcher (6’0”, 185) joins the Sharks for his first season with the team and his second year in arena football. Belcher spent the 2016 season with the Cedar Rapids Titans under Coach Mark Stoute. Belcher racked up 29 FGs made on 54 attempts, scoring 62 PATs on 79 attempts (78%) recording 149 points scored for Cedar Rapids. The Titans’ clutch kicker had one of his best performances in the playoff opener against Wichita Falls where he converted seven out of eight PAT attempts helping the Cedar Rapids to a 66-36 victory to advance to the United Conference Championship. Belcher earned IFL’s Special Teams Player of the Week four times in the 2016 season, helping Cedar Rapids to a 12-4 record and United Conference Wild Card victory.   

Prior to 2016, Belcher was a CFL and AFL free agent earning invitations with the Edmonton Eskimos and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers during the team’s mini camps and also spent time with the Jacksonville Sharks during the 2015 training camp.

Belcher was a highly recruited JUCO baseball and football player at Florence Darlington Technical College where he kicked for two years before transferring to South Carolina State where he had a successful career as the Bulldogs kicker. In his first year with South Carolina State, Belcher started all of the team’s 13 games, making 55 PATs and 32 FGs, with his longest going 53 yards. During his second year, he was the team’s leading scoring with a stunning 87 points during regular season. Belcher’s breakout year amassed 45 PATs on 46 attempts and 44 FGs. During his final year with the Bulldogs, Belcher went 17 for 23 in FGs, landing 40 PATs for South Carolina State.

Belcher is a native of Sumter, South Carolina where he played football, baseball, soccer and tennis at Lakewood High School. Belcher’s high school career earned him All-Area Honors and All-State Accolades, which allowed him to play in the Pensacola Sports Association All-Star Game and the Max Emfinger All-American Game.
