JACKSONVILLE –  The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that wide receiver Darryl Thompson and defensive back / wide receiver Will Dukes have signed with the Jacksonville Sharks for the 2017 season.

Darryl Thompson (5’8”, 175) enters his first season with the Sharks after playing for both the IFL and  the Fall Experimental Football League (IFXL), a professional football minor league that served as a potential feeder system to the NFL. In 2016, Thompson played for the Spokane Empire of the IFL during the team’s 13-5 season. Thompson played in two games for Empire on special teams, returning 3 kicks for 49 yards, his longest came from a 27 yard return. Prior to the IFL, Thompson spent two seasons with the Florida Blacktips of the IFXL from 2014-2015 before the team suspended operations.  

Thompson began his college career at Hudson Valley Community College. During his time at Hudson Valley he played in 7 games as a wide receiver recording 15 catches for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Thompson also became a threat in the run game, rushing on seven carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Following his sophomore year, Thompson transferred to Texas A&M Commerce where he spent his junior year before finishing his college career at the College of Brockport. In 2013 as a senior, Thompson hauled in 21 catches for 516 yards and three TDs.

Thompson is a native of Rochester, NY where he played football and track for Marshall High School. During his senior year, he had 21 catches for 445 yards and five touchdowns. In track he set the school record for the 60 meter dash.

Will Dukes (6’3”,200) enters his rookie year, set to play both receiver and defensive back for the Sharks. The Florida Atlantic University wide receiver played all four years at FAU amassing a career total of 125 receptions for 1,866 yards and 11 TDs.

As a junior, Dukes earned Conference USA Preseason Honors, ranked eighth as a receiver for TDs and 24th for receptions per game in the C-USA. Dukes scored the first TD of the 2013 against University of Miami in the season opener in Coral Gables, FL. Dukes played in all 12 regular season games and collected 35 catches for 553 yards, while hauling in a career high of six touchdowns. In 2012, Dukes had a breakout sophomore year, leading the team in receptions (63) and yards (979). Dukes finished the year with Second Team All-Sunbelt Honors and was named Owls Offensive MVP of the Year.

Dukes is a native of Fort Lauderdale, FL and attended Dillard High School where he was a two-sport athlete in football and track. During his senior year, Dukes racked up a total of 47 receptions for 876 yards and eight TDs. The highly recruited wide receiver earned invitations to the Broward North vs. South All-Star Game and the Broward County Public vs. Private All-Star Game. The 6’3 athlete received Div. I offers from Minnesota, Western Kentucky, and Central Michigan, before committing to stay in South Florida with Florida Atlantic University.
