JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that wide receiver/jack linebacker Charlie Hunt has been signed to the Jacksonville roster for the 2017 season.
Charlie Hunt (6’4”, 220) will begin his fourth season in arena football, playing all previous seasons with the Sharks. He last saw action in 2014 where he collected 50 tackles and four interceptions. Hunt has collected a total of 157 tackles and 10 interceptions playing for the Sharks. In 2012, Hunt ranked third on the team with 51 tackles, eight pass breakups and a forced fumble in his 14 games with the Sharks.
As an AFL rookie in 2011, Hunt started in 12 games for the ArenaBowl XXIV Champions, recorded 55.5 total tackles, five pass breakups, four interceptions and 2 tackles for loss. Also during this time, Hunt became the first and only Shark defender to record three interceptions in a single game in a win over the Iowa Barnstormers, which continued the Sharks’ longest winning streak in franchise history (13).
Hunt began his professional career, playing two seasons in the American Indoor Football Association with the Wyoming Cavalry in 2010 and Utah Saints in 2009. Prior to his professional career, Hunt played at Florida State University where he played wide receiver from 2006-2009.
Hunt is a Jacksonville native, who attended University Christian High School. Hunt’s father Charlie Hunt Sr. was a local high school football player at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Hunt Sr. also played at Florida State and was later drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1976.
