JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that defensive lineman William Hunt Jr and defensive back Timothy Bennett have signed with the Jacksonville Sharks for the 2017 season.


Timothy Bennett (5,10”,185) will enter his second season playing arena football and his first with the Jacksonville Sharks. Bennett last saw action with the IFL’s Cedar Rapids Titans in 2016, where he played in all 14 regular season games and recorded 62 tackles, seven pass breakups, one sack, one interception. Bennett ranked third on the team for total tackles during his rookie season with the Titans. Bennett joined Cedar Rapids following his release from the San Diego Chargers in 2015. Bennett participated in the Chargers Rookie Minicamp following his college successful career at Indiana University.   


During Bennett’s career at Indiana, he collected 157 tackles, 32 pass breakups, eight tackles for a loss, one interception and one sack. The senior, had a breakout year, leading the team with 52 solo tackles, ranked sixth in the Big Ten with nine pass breakups and recorded four tackles for a loss and an interception. Throughout his career at Indiana, Bennett earned multiple awards including All-Big Ten Honorable Mention, IU Defensive Player of the Week, Indiana’s Teammate of the Year and the Loyalty to IU Football Award. 


Bennett is a native of Columbus, Georgia where he played football at Northside High School. Bennett earned All Bi-City first team selection following senior year where he posted 102 tackles, three interceptions and five tackles for a loss.


William Hunt Jr. (6’4”, 270) enters his third season playing arena football and first for the Jacksonville Sharks. Hunt spent his rookie year with the Spokane Shock where he played in two games posting 2.5 tackles and a pass breakup. Hunt spent 2016 with the Soul but did not see any action with the ArenaBowl Champions. Prior to beginning his pro career, Hunt played defensive lineman for Charleston Southern where he recorded a total of 114 total tackles, 12 sacks, four forced fumbles and two pass breakups. His senior year, Hunt saw action in seven games and averaged 4.9 tackles per game. In 2013, Hunt won Big South Defensive Player of the Week due to his five tackles, a sack and a forced fumble that took the team to a 27-24 win over Appalachian State.


In 2012, he played in all 11 games and started in 10 as a sophomore. Fleming recorded 29 tackles, four sacks, two forced fumbles and led the team with 10.5 tackles for a loss. During his freshman year he played in 11 games finishing the year with 23 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.


Hunt is a native of Greenville, South Carolina where he attended Southside High School. During his high school career he was a two-time All-Region selection, an All-County defensive lineman and a two-sport athlete playing both football and basketball.
