JACKSONVILLE –  The Jacksonville Sharks have announced today that defensive backs Jabari Gorman and Marvin Ross have signed with the Canadian Football League. Coach Mark Stoute officially placed both players on Other League Exempt. Prior to Saturday’s game, Ross signed with the Calgary Stampeders and Gorman signed with the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

Jabari Gorman, a former Florida Gator, previously played for the Nebraska Danger of the IFL where he was named the 2016 IFL Rookie of the Year. Gorman was a force on the Sharks defense and helped them become the best in the league, Gorman’s number was called first as CFL teams approach their training camp period. Gorman led the league in average tackles per game with 6.6 before he left for the CFL. He finished his time with the Sharks with two interceptions and 21 solo tackles in just four games. Gorman is now headed to play for the Hamilton Tiger Cats of the CFL, a team that finished the 2016 season 7-11 with an appearance in the league semi-final.

Marvin Ross, the AFL’s 2016 Rookie of the Year, previously played for the Cleveland Gladiators where he tallied 84 tackles, 24 pass breakups, six interceptions, and two forced fumbles. This year with the Sharks, Ross led the league in interceptions with nine in five games. He also had 22 total tackles and a pick-six, performing as a standout player on the Sharks defense. Ross heads to Canada to play for the Calgary Stampeders, a team that finished last season 15-2-1 and played in the CFL’s 104th Grey Cup, where they lost 17-8.

“I definitely thought my time in Jacksonville was beneficial. I developed a lot of relationships during my time here. I haven’t played for a team in Jacksonville since high school, so it was great to be back and have my hometown and family see me put shoulder pads on and play”, said Ross. “Even though Gorman and I have left, I still expect perfection from this 7-0 Sharks team. We have a lot of great players here and I believe the Sharks can bring home a championship. Even, when Tommy went down, Flemming stepped up big, and I believe both quarterbacks could lead the Sharks to a championship.  I have a lot faith in this team and Coach Stoute.”
