Unstoppable fourth quarter propels Sharks to a decisive victory
Fishers, IN - The Jacksonville Sharks extended their winning streak to 5 games on Saturday night improving to 6-1, using a dominant final quarter to pull away from the Fishers Freight for a 68-50 victory at the Fishers Event Center.
For most of the night, the Freight matched the Sharks punch for punch. Fishers entered the matchup desperate to snap a two-game skid and fed off the energy of the home crowd early. Big plays from the Freight offense especially their persistent run game kept the Sharks defense on its heels. Early in the game it looked as if the Sharks struggled at times with the fast tempo and physicality of the game.
But once again the Sharks adjusted and their resilience showed. QB Sammy Edwards sparked the turning point early in the fourth quarter with a rushing touchdown that gave the Sharks momentum just as the game tightened. Moments later, Sharks K Marc Orozco drilled a deuce, swinging the pressure squarely onto Fishers. The Freight then backed themselves up deep in their own territory before a costly holding penalty in the end zone resulted in a safety. Suddenly, what had been a close contest became a Sharks takeover.
The Sharks capitalized immediately after the safety exploding ahead 66-50 with a cherry on top touchdown by WR Marquel Wade, silencing the Freight crowd with 6:14 left on the clock. The game showcased everything that has made the Sharks so dangerous during its current hot streak: explosive offense, timely defense, and the ability to dominate momentum swings.
The Sharks will look to extend the win streak to six in a row as they travel to Iowa to take on the Barnstormers May 22.
