JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville Sharks announced today that wide receiver Joe Hills has been signed to the Jacksonville roster for the 2017 season.
Joe “Superman” Hills (6’4”, 220) will kick off his third season with the Jacksonville Sharks and his seventh year in arena football. Hills spent his 2017 season playing for the AFL’s Tampa Bay Storm where he made 95 catches for 999 yards with 27 TDs in only nine games. Following the 2016 season, Hills was offered to play overseas and was offered to work out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the NFL season. During the Sharks’ 2016 season, Hills led the league in all receiving categories with 161 catches for 2020 yards and made 58 TDs. Superman finished the regular season helping the Sharks to an American Conference Championship appearance.
“It’s great to be back in the tank with the greatest fans in arena football, said Joe Hills. The Sharks have always felt like family and it feels good to be back. Yes! Yes! Yes!”
Hills also became the second player in franchise history to record 2,000 or more receiving yards in a single season. Last year alone, Superman made first team All-Arena honors, Under Armour’s Offensive Player of the Year and Cutters Wide Receiver of the Year awards.
“The opportunity to get a player the caliber of Joe this late in the season was too good to pass up,” said Head Coach Siaha Burley. It’s always a huge compliment when the best receiver in arena football wants to play for you.”
In a 59-56 win over the Orlando Predators, Hills broke the franchise record for single-game touchdown receptions with 8, one of which sealed the win with 20 seconds left in the game. In 2016, Hill caught at least one touchdown pass in every game that season, extending his own personal streak to 72 consecutive games with at least one score. In 2015, Hills made second team All-Arena honors after catching 150 passes for 1,597 yards and 42 TDs. The Sharks leading receiver finished fourth in the AFL with 42 touchdown receptions during the regular 2015 season.
Before his time with the Sharks, Hills led the Tampa Bay Storm in TDs and finished second in catches and yards in 2014. He also had the opportunity to train with the Carolina Panthers after his successful 2013 season with the Storm where he made first team All-Arena and led the team in all categories. Hills first broke into the AFL with the Spokane Shock in 2012, joining the Storm later in that season. In 2011, Hills signed with Tennessee Titans prior to the start of his arena football career in 2011.
Superman spent his collegiate career at Tennessee State University where he was ranked by rivals as the 27th-best athlete in the nation and was a Top 100 player in Florida by SuperPrep. He is a native of Palmetto, Florida, where he spent his high school career at Palmetto High School.
