JACKSONVILLE, Fla - Fans began entering the stadium as soon as the doors opened to see their hometown Jacksonville Sharks begin their exhibition football season in a pre-season game against the Tampa Bay Storm. The game opened fast as the Sharks deferred the opening kickoff to Tampa and the Storm managed to score a touchdown on the first play of the game. Tampas opening explosion was quickly hosed out by the Sharks after returning Shark Jomo Wilson answered back immediately with a touchdown pass from the Arena Football Leagues all-time leading touchdown passer Aaron Garcia. The next Sharks possession resulted in a long field goal kick from the kicker, Marco Capozzoli.
As dominant as the Sharks offense was, the story of the night was the Sharks defense. With multiple stops on fourth down, and a safety, the Sharks defense showed why it was tops in the league just a year ago. Jomo Wilson added to the Sharks offense with a kickoff return late in the second quarter. Later in the first half, Omar Jacobs took over as the signal-caller for Aaron Garcia and threw a touchdown pass to Terrance Smith in his first attempt. Tampa attempted a comeback with a touchdown just before the first half ended, but Jacksonville was quick to respond with a fumble recovery with one minute left in the opening half.
The second half was much of the same as the Sharks struck first with a touchdown pass form Omar Jacobs to Terrance Smith, his third touchdown reception of the night. With ten minutes left in the fourth quarter Tyronne Gross opened up on a short pass from Omar Jacobs. He ran through multiple would-be-tackles and ended up with another touchdown for the Sharks. A few minutes later Tyronne opened up again with a touchdown run. The final points of the game were put on the board by Jacksonville after a safety that put them ahead for a final score of 56-19.
